The SEQC (Spanish Society of Cosmetic Chemists) was created in Barcelona in 1958 by a group of chemists, J. Artigas, M.Albiol, C. Susana, J.Ráfols, A. Contijoch and J.Mª. Fenollosa. They had two clear objectives: to make contact with other professionals working within Cosmetics and to establish relationships with foreign societies in the sector. In 1959 the IFSCC (International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists) was created and SEQC was one of its founding members.

Dr. Jordi Artigas was elected as the new society's first president, and in 1962 he was made president of the IFSCC, the first of the International Federation's four Spanish presidents. He was followed in 1970 by Francesc Serra Coll, in 1986 by Jordi Puig Martín and in 1993 by Carlos Pelejero Cabruja.

The organisation of the 6th IFSCC Congress, celebrated in Barcelona in 1970, was an important milestone amongst the achievements of the SEQC during those years.

The SEQC also organised during the 70ties various 'Perfumery Days', annual work-shops bringing together all those working in the different areas of Perfumery.

The 14th IFSCC congress in 1986, the second organised by the SEQC in Barcelona, was the event which vigorously impelled the SEQC towards its current state of development.

Another significant event in the history of the society was its organisation of the World Perfumery Congress which took place in Palma de Mallorca in 1991.

Equally important was the International Conference of the IFSCC which was organised by the Spanish Society of Cosmetic Chemists in 1993 in Platja d’Aro (Barcelona), under the title: “Biocosmetics - Skin Ageing”.

In 1996 the SEQC co-organised the first Mediterranean Cosmetics Congress with the French and Italian Societies, celebrated at La Grande Motte in France.

The SEQC has made a bid to organise the 25th IFSCC Congress to be held in Spain in 2008.
